Excited for NCTE: Where I’ll Be

I’ll be doing a few different things in the Seaport at the annual NCTE Convention and would love to say hello and learn with you for any of it. On Friday, I’ll be reunited with Tricia Ebarvia and Lorena German for a #DisruptTexts workshop that features Randy Ribay, Ellen Oh, and Shifa Saltagi Safadi. We’re aiming to bring it with examples of what it means to truly be teaching and loving in these moments and HOW to do it.

Saturday, I’m moderating for the session Liberation as Stance which features another incredible gathering of who I think are the best literacy educators around. Period. This panel includes Dr. Sonja Cherry-Paul, Tiana Silvas, Anna Osborn, Tricia Ebarvia, Michelle Yang-Kaczmarek, Keisha Smith-Carrington, Amanda Hartman and Aeriale Johnson. This session is a power session b/c you’ll gain a ton of information in a packed session. Can’t wait for that one!

Then, I’ll wrap up my sessions with poetry! Aeriale Johnson and I join Clare Landrigan and Matt de la Pena as well as Shifa Safadi to talk about how poetry can save us all. And, honestly, don’t we need that RIGHT NOW?

Otherwise, I’ll likely be around catching up with folks and doing some good ole soul work to be reminded of the importance of community, connection, and literacy. This is always my most meaningful PD, as NCTE has been my professional home ever since I was a young teacher, and has evolved and changed and remains important as I’ve done the same.

If you’ll be at NCTE, holler! I’d love to say hello.
